Charles Adu Boahen

Charles Adu Boahen has extensive experience in Investment Banking and Private Equity. Prior to founding BSA, Charles was a Director and Regional Head of Corporate & Investment Banking for Standard Bank of South Africa. Prior to Standard Bank, Charles was with JP Morgan for over 5 years as Vice President and Head of Investment Banking for Sub-Saharan Africa where he was responsible for developing the Investment banking business across sub-Saharan Africa excluding South Africa and was the Senior Country Representative for Nigeria.

After Business School, he joined the $400mm AIG African Infrastructure Fund as an Investment Officer, where he was responsible for finding, analyzing and structuring private equity investments in companies doing business in Africa. After college, Charles joined Salomon Smith Barney on Wall Street in their Investment Banking Division where his responsibilities included various corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions assignments primarily in the Chemicals and Energy sector. 

Charles has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California.

 

Chris Adu Boahen

Chris Adu Boahen joins us with Management Consulting and Operations Management experience plus Strong Local Network and Work Experience

Prior to joining Black Star Advisors, Chris was Managing Partner of the Exodus Advisory Group, a Washington DC based financial advisory firm focused on identifying and packaging investment opportunities in Africa and the Caribbean for global investors. At Exodus Mr. Boahen developed comprehensive business plans and raised funding for a quarry, clothing company and software developer among others. Prior to that, Chris worked as a consultant in the Washington, D.C office of the Boston Consulting Group (“BCG”), focusing primarily on the Telecommunications industry. At BCG, Mr. Boahen conducted business strength and strategy analyses of a variety of telecommunication industry groups.
Chris has several years of business experience on the African continent. Mr. Boahen worked as a consultant in the South African office of McKinsey & Co., with a focus on the E-commerce space. Prior to joining McKinsey, Chris managed the manufacturing department of British American Tobacco (“BAT”) in Takoradi, Ghana.
Chris holds the Master of Business Administration degree, with honors, in Finance and Strategic Management from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and the Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University Of Science & Technology -- Ghana. Chris has also completed BAT’s Global Challenge Initiative Training Program, a two-year structured on-the-job management-training program for nurturing managerial competence in-house, with a strong emphasis on cross-functional training.

 

Selorm Adukpo

Selorm is in charge of the Real Estate Department. He holds a Bsc. (Building Tech.) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, with 1st Class Honours where he was engaged as Teaching Assistant after graduation for a period of one year handling Theory of Structures and Structural design at the Undergraduate level. During his National Service, Selorm worked with Wilkado Construction Works in Kumasi as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. He was involved in Quantity Surveying duties for Wilkado projects which included multi-storey Hostel Blocks, Museums and Lecture Halls among others. 

Selorm later joined Penta Built Ltd, a Design and Build Construction Company based in Accra as their Quantity Surveyor. Projects successfully executed include a warehouse and factory building for Sintex Containers, and finishing sub-contract works at the new Russian Embassy among others. Selorm then proceeded to join Procurement and Project Management Consultancy Ltd (PPMC) where his responsibilities included the preparation of documents for the expression of interest for consultancy services, preparation of tender documents, certificate preparation, cost planning and others.

He has successfully handled projects ranging from multi-million cedi hostels to complex industrial engineering structures.

 

Nunya Mensah

Prior to joining Black star advisors Nunya managed the finance department of EB-ACCION savings and loan companies where his responsibilities included regulatory reporting, financial reporting as well as managing the daily operating activities of the department.

Prior to EB-ACCION Nunya worked with Ernst and Young Ghana as an auditor and later as tax consultant to companies in varied industries. He also worked as Analyst with SGS Superintendence Co. Ltd and Chrysler Financial Co. Limited in Tanzania and Canada respectively. Nunya is a chartered Accountant, has an MBA from University of Windsor, Ontario and undergraduate degree from McGill University.

Ladi Balogun

Managing Director/CEO – First City Monument Bank (FCMB)

Ladi has extensive banking experience in commercial and investment banking in Europe, USA and Africa, working for organizations such as Morgan Grenfell (erstwhile investment bankers) and Citibank. He became the Managing Director of FCMB in 2005. He holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of East Anglia and an MBA from Harvard University.


Dominic Adu

Managing Director/CEO – Ghana Home Loans

Prior to founding Ghana Home Loans which has attracted over $33M of funds from 3 continents, Dominic was a Principal with Acts (formerly CDC Capital Partners) a UK based emerging markets private equity fund manager, with over $3bn of funds under management Dominic was responsible for investment in West Africa. While with Actis, Dominic served as CEO of Venture Fund Management Company, the Investment Manager (General Partner) of Ghana Venture Capital Fund and Enterprise Fund, both SME funds, with a combined investment value of US$ 10M. Dominic is an economics graduate from the University of Manchester (B A Econs) and University of London (MSc Econs) as well as a qualified chartered accountant (ACA England & Wales).
